Detachment, Dispassion, Disenchantment – Dhamma talk with Jeff Oliver

Due to family sickness this talk has been cancelled. Best wishes to Jeff’s mother.

Our weekly group meditation will go ahead as normal though.

Monday 22nd Australian meditation teacher Jeff Oliver will be in Bangkok and give a dhamma talk on the topic of ‘Detachment’ at the beautiful Ariyasom Villa.

Jeff is a well known meditation teacher in Bangkok and has given a number of well-received talks for us in the past. He is always to the point, and insightful. Right now he will be returning from a month in Burma with one of his teachers where he has been on meditation retreat.

The topic of detachment is a common source of questioning in Buddhism. Why is it a good thing? Where do ‘disapassion’, ‘detachment’ and ‘disenchantment’ fit into the scheme of happiness? Especially when the worldly way of thinking values passion and attachment so highly.

Jeff’s angle is always coming from a point of meditation; his approach is always looking for practical application and development of meditation – especially contemplation of mind (cittanupassana).

This talk will be instead of our usual Monday meditation session.

  • 6:30 gather
  • 7:00 Dhamma talk, Q&A and short meditation
  • 8:30 (ish) finish.
