Dhamma Talk with Jeff Oliver

Tuesday 17th March:

Dhamma Talk

with

Jeff Oliver

ariyasom-qa

Jeff should be known to many of you already, after leading a dhamma talk and one day workshop for us last year.  He was a monk for some years with the hugely respected Sayadaw U Janaka in Myanmar. These days, though a layman, he leads somewhat of a homeless life blowing where the Dhamma winds take him, leading meditation retreats and serving Dhamma in various ways. Much of his time is spent serving the dhamma community in Turkey. He will be here for a week in March, so we’ve invited him to speak at the beautiful Ariyasom Villa, at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 1.

Topic will be:

Viriya – Balancing right effort with letting go and stilling the mind

Meet at Ariyasom 6pm (there’s a great coffee shop, so good chance to meet some of the other regulars)

Talk and meditation 6:30 – 8:15

There will be time and space to chat afterwards for those who are not rushing off home.

Free of charge as always. No reservation required.

In meditation we have to make a strong effort to tame the wayward mind. Yet that trying, setting the goal of ‘meditating’ is itself a distturbance to peace. The mind should not be too peaceful, nor too much caught in striving. In a word, we have to cultivate balance. Jeff will be talking on this, and including some meditation exercises as he goes along.

Ariyasom Villa is number 65 at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 1, on the left hand side. About 10 mins walk from Ploen Chit station.
