We are glad to announce that senior Canadian monk Ajahn Tiradhammo will be in Bangkok, and will give a public talk on Thursday 28th Feb 2013 at DMG (map below). In the late afternoon from 4:00 pm the Dhamma talk will be in Thai, and then at 7:00 pm the second talk will be in English.

Ajahn Tiradhammo gave a talk for us in 2009 and 2010, which was very well received.  He was a direct student of the great Luang Phor Chah back in 1975, just after he ordained as a monk. Later he moved to help with the new temples in the UK under Ajahn Sumedho, and then became abbot of the temple in Switzerland, where he lived for a long time. More recently he moved to become abbot of Bodhinyanarama Temple in New Zealand, before his current semi-retired role.

Ajahn Tiradhammo is a very warm and cheerful Bhikkhu, and always an interesting speaker. Now ordained for 38 years, he has lots of experience with all aspects of Buddhism. Newcomers will certainly find the talk easy to follow, and for experienced meditators … do not miss this chance.

Bodhgaya Hall is on level 22 of Amarin Tower, close to Chit Lom BTS Station. The hall is large, quiet, and very peaceful being so high up.

Bio of Ajahn Tiradhammo

Now with 38 vassa (years as a monk) , Ajahn Tiradhammo became interested in Dhamma in his student years while travelling through Sri Lanka. Coming to Thailand and meditating at Wat Umong, he took ordination at Wat MMeung Man in Chiang Mai with Venerable Tong in 1974.

In 1975 he moved to study with Ajahn Cha at Wat Pa Pong and Wat Pa Nanachat. He went on several tudong journeys through the northeast of Thailand and the mountains of Chiang Mai, visiting many famous forest meditation masters.
Venerable Tiradhammo was invited to England in 1982 to help with developments there. He spent two years at Chithurst Monastery, and three years in charge of Harnham Vihara in Northumberland. In 1988 he helped establish Dhammapala Monastery near Bern, Switzerland and also later at its new location in the Bernese Alpine village of Kandersteg where he was the senior monk until 2005. In July 2005 he assumed the position of senior monk at Bodhinyanarama, Wellington, NZ

แทนที่การศึกษาในมหาวิทยาลัยสาขาวิศวกรรม ธรณีวิทยาและ ภูมิศาสตร์ จะทำให้พระอาจารย์

มุ่งแสวงหาความก้าวหน้าทางโลก พระอาจารย์กล่าวไว้ในหนึ่งในธรรมเทศนาโปรดญาติโยมชาวต่างชาติ

ว่า ขณะเรียนวิชาธรณีวิทยา ความไม่มั่นคงในอิฐหินดินทรายและความเสื่อมที่เกิดดับอยู่ทุกขณะในสิ่งที่มนุษย์มองเห็นเป็นสิ่งที่สร้างความมั่นคให้กับชีวิตทำให้ท่านตัดสินใจละการศึกษาในมหาวิทยาลัยออกแสวงหาความหมายที่แท้จริงของชีวิตด้วยการขี่จักรยานจากปากีสถานมายังศรีลังกา ปฏิบัติสมาธิภาวนากับ Bhikkhu Sivoli  และศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยชีวิตเรื่อยไปจนถึงประเทศอินเดีย

ไม่นานหลังจากนั้น บารมีที่ท่านสะสมมาพาท่านมาถึงแผ่นดินไทย แผ่นดินพุทธ หลังจากปฏิบัติที่วัดอุโมงค์

ท่านก็ตัดสินใจมอบกายถวายชีวิตอุทิศแด่พระพุทธศาสนาโดยอุปสมบทที่วัดเมืองแมน เชียงใหม่โดยพระอาจารย์ทองปี 1974 และปฏิบัติภายใต้หลวงพ่อชาที่วัดป่าพง ในปี 1975 เวลา 9 ปีในเมืองไทยที่วัดป่าพง

และวัดป่านานาชาติเอื้อให้ท่านเข้าใจคนไทยและสื่อสารภาษาไทย ภาษาธรรมได้ด้วยภาษาเรียบง่ายเข้าถึงใจ

จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวในการปฏิบัติที่ท่านแบ่งปันด้วยเมตตา ไม่มีเทศนาครั้งใดจากพระอาจารย์ที่ผู้สนใจในธรรมจะไม่ได้ยินเสียงหัวเราะอย่างพระผู้ใหญ่ใจดีจากพระอาจารย์ธีระธัมโม

ระหว่าง 35 พรรษาในสมณะเพศ ท่านรับนิมนต์ไปช่วยงานก่อตั้งวัดป่าสาขาหลวงพ่อชาในประเทศอังกฤษ

5 ปี  รักษาการเจ้าอาวาสวัดป่าที่ประเทศสวิสเซอร์แลนด์เป็นระยะเวลาประมาณ 18 ปี ปัจจุบันท่านได้รับนิมนต์มาเป็นเจ้าอาวาสวัดโพธิญานาราม กรุงเวลลิงตัน ประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ตั้งแต่ปีคศ  2005
