Meditation and the Mind

A Public Lecture by Geshe Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche

Bodhgaya Hall, Amarin Plaza, 22nd Floor (DMG Publishing Office)

Thursday, October 1, 2009 7 – 9 pm

Free of charge.

In this lecture, Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, one of the most respected new generation of Tibetan masters, will talk about meditation and training the mind. The mind plays a very important role in our lives. It is the source of perception and understanding of the world. Furthermore, it is also the source of both suffering and happiness. Thus controlling the mind means controlling everything. Nyima Dakpa Ripoche will talk about basic, preliminary practices that lead to meditative techniques and mind training. He will also talk about the nature of the mind itself, and its relation to formation of and attachment to the ego, which is the ultimate source of suffering. These preliminary practices are stepping stones to the practice of Great Perfection, or Dzogchen. The audience will also practice meditation together with Rinpoche according to the Dzogchen tradition.

The talk will be in English with Thai translation.

About Nyima Dakpa RInpoche

Latri Khenpo Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche is founder and director of several

Bon Buddhist centers in several countries, e.g., USA, Austria, Russia,

Belarus and India. He is abbot of Latri monastery in Tibet. He grew up

in a Tibetan refugee settlement in Nepal. His father was a famous

reincarnated lama from eastern Tibet who passed on the Latri lineage to

sMenri Monastery under the guidance of His Holiness 33rd sMenri Trizin,

spiritual head of Bon. Rinpoche obtained the Geshe degree equivalent to

Ph.D in philosophy. His goal is to preserve Tibetan ancient wisdom and

to sponsor Bonpo children in Tibet and the Himalayas so that they can

take part in preserving their heritage. He has regularly been invited to

give talks in many countries. Among the topics he often teaches include

healing, body and mind, Dzogchen, calm abiding, as well as how to practice on Medicine Buddha.

Rinpoche is one of the foremost spiritual teachers in the west and serves as an advisor to the Thousand Stars Foundation. His book “Opening the Door to Bon” was translated in many languages.

Bodhgaya Hall is in the offices of DMG Books, and is used regularly by a large Thai group of meditators. It is an excellent facility, and very convenient on the skytrain line, Chit Lom Station. The Thai group meets there every Tuesday and Wednesday.

The address is Amarin Plaza, Level 22, 496-502 Ploenchit Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

Get out at Chit Lom Skytrain Station, and walk or take the lift (‘elevator’ to Americans) down to the ground floor of the Amarin Tower. From the ground floor, take the lift up to the 22nd floor. DMG is on the right hand side on the 22nd floor, and there is a nice coffee shop there, so you can arrive early for events and meet some of the regulars.

You cannot get up to the 22nd floor via the lift in the Amarin plaza itself. You must go to the lifts on the ground floor, to access the office block above the Amarin Plaza.

  1. Anyone wanting to register needs to follow the links above and register with 1000 Stars.
But the hall is large, and there will be no problem with space, so I am sure you can register at the door on the day.

    1. I can’t reserve a spot exactly, as I am not the organiser for this event. However there is lots of space at the venue so there is no need to reserve. I plan to go myself so perhaps see you there. Pandit Bhikkhu
