Monday 15th Feb: Meet and Talk with Thai meditation master Ajahn Wimaok

Monday 15th February, 2010

At the beautiful Ariyasom Villa, Bangkok

We have invited Thai Bhikkhu Ajahn Wimoak for a dhamma talk

6:30 gather, with coffee and refreshments (free of charge)

7:00 – 7:45 Dhamma Talk

7:45 – 8:15  Meditation

The topic of the talk is ‘Detachment’: why is it a good thing?

As with all our events, there’s no charge, but donations are welcome.

Ajahn Wimoak

Most people who have been around our Little Bangkok Sangha for a while will know Ajahn Wimoak very well. He is a kind hearted and warm Thai monk, who is also an advanced meditator. His English is pretty fluent, and he is able to ‘re-think’ things and re-present regular ideas in Buddhism/meditation with freshness and warmth. He is also a very hard working monk, always happy to travel and accept invitations to teach, both in Thailand and abroad. He has several regular Thai groups that meet at different places (Information in Thai).

Ariyasom Villa

Again, most Little Bangkok Sangha readers will know the beautiful Ariyasom Villa. situated at the end of Sukhumvit Soi one, less than a 10 minute walk from Ploen Chit BTS Station. We’ll meet in the library at 6:30 for coffee and such, to let everyone have chance to meet each other, before heading up to the Dhamma hall before 7pm. See map/photo below.

Detachment

Several people raised this question at our recent YBAT weekend retreat. Should you not be ‘attached’ to your family, job, yoga regime … and ‘detachment’ does not sound too nice, let alone a spiritual quality.

In Thailand detachment, or non-clinging is seen as a given for being an advanced quality. Little consideration is given to the question, and more is given to how to achieve it. Putting AJah Wimaok under the spotlight we will get to see the Asian perspective on this interesting question, and why it is taken fro granted in Thai culture.

Note, Ajahn Wimoak might choose a different topic closer to the time – we will leave the option open to him.

Click the map for an even larger view (note that this map is proportional to actual distance, and has North at the top. It is less than a 10 minute walk from Ploen Chit BTS Station on Sukhumvit One
