Topic:

Depression is not just feeling a bit down. It’s a debilitating sickness that causes real suffering – more people commit suicide from depression than any other illness. You or someone you know will be suffering from negative thought patterns right now.

The ’causes’ are not known. It is not just a case of something not going right in your life.

The ‘cure’ is not known either. It is not just a case of cheering up!

But the habit of thought that accompanies depression can be seen in meditation and reflected on with dhamma. Right intention and right effort provide a stable platform from which to acknowledge and understand negative thought patterns.

I’ll be speaking from personal experience – a suicidal mindset is what took me to Buddhism, and it’s something I have witnessed in others many times. Often tragically.
